There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
